Chapter 71 - And greetings

EDIT: Telepathy XD
guibin and me wrote the post in the same moment :O See below.
--------------------------------------

Yeah, that's it. The last chapter made by us.
Please don't cry! Oh, well... I know nobody reads this blog by now.
However, I just want to write some lines about this fantastic experience with this group. First of all thanks to guibin, our great translator. He was the pillar of this project and I can't thank him enough for what he did.
Thanks to Argetlam too, THE editor, the person I like the most working with scans. And MacaRoot, a great translator and checker, he improved a lot the quality of our scans. And Red-Baron, the one who improved the english in Umisho. And the proofer, avatarbriman. And the other checker, the last one arrived, tadzio. And everyone worked with us. Thanks a lot ^^
Thanks to Vexed too, 'cause thanks to him we can read Umisho regularly. Yeah, I want to read it too XD I'm a big fan of this series.
So go to http://vexedscans.blogspot.com and support him if you want to read the end of this manga ;) He's doing a great job, today released chapter 76!

Disbanded...

This is abrupt but unfortunately, due to lack of staff, Animelab scans has disbanded. Seriously, all our members disappeared except for the editor and me. The editor has been getting busier, and I would try to reorganize the group but my life is just hell right now.

So what about Umisho? Vexed scans seemed to be doing a pretty good job of releasing, though I'm not understanding how as the credit page suggests only one person is working on the entire thing. Maybe he/she/they are just that good.

I'm going to try and join some other group for now but when the time comes for Animelab to reform, I'll come back.

Chapter 71? I have no idea. Watashiwa7 had it last so it's up to him if he wants to release it as a last gung-ho. I tried my hand at editing but the best I can do is typeset the texts in the bubbles, and I don't seem to have the patience for looking through the long list of fonts to match the original Japanese text. I was doing it on MS Paint by the way.

So good-bye faithful readers! If you like my translations, I'm going to try and join a group doing the following the series...

Kaichou wa Maid-sama
Akagami Shirayukihime
Dance in the Vampire Bund (have to check if it's seinen)
Faster Than a Kiss
Nagasarete Airantou
Cage of Eden (have to check it's seinen)

Again, good bye all! For now...

P.S. As for this website....it'll just lay dormant for now....

April Foools

Now that April fool’s Day is over, onto some explanations.

First of all…the date... This blogspot account was created by watashiwa7 and he lives in Italy, meaning it is one day ahead of us Americans. That’s right; I made a post in the future. I’m freakin’ Nakamura Hiro bi*ch. This post will probably be a day ahead too. The rest of the world lives a day in the future ahead of us American folks! We’re all behind!

The post was approved by the mango.

However, not everyone thought it was funny. Momoko came to me ten minutes after the post was made. This was what she looked like.

BUT…everything is fine. After an hour of throttling and wrestling, and finally decapitating the snakes in her hair, therefore releasing the spirit of Medusa that possessed her, Momoko returned to normal and we had fierce make-up sex and she forgave me for my little joke. Yeah I’m immune to Medusa’s glare!

P.S. watashiwa7 has aced his exam and will get to editing in full. I don't know how long the editing process takes so I can't say for sure how long before the real chapter 70. But it will be soon.

Disclaimer: I found the image of the mango on google and the picture of Momoko on photobucket. They are not mine. I claim fair use!

Chapter 70

Here it is, Chapter 70. Must be a new record for us. It's not watashiwa7 right now, who is usually the one to make these posts. This is guibin, your translator.

Situations like the one above are actually not that uncommon in real life. Enjoy your mango.

Thanks for the release, love this manga :D
I've been thinking this for a while now, but I really love the ever-changing site background. Is there any chance the source picks could be made available for DL? ^^

Keep up the good work, you guys are awesome!

Your wish is my command ;) Here you are:

P.S. Isn't Maaya cute when she's quiet?

Chapter 69

Yeah, no joking XD Chapter 69 is finally released!
You know, we are 6 people working on this project. This time two of us had a lot (A LOT) of problems with exams, RL and stuff, that's why we needed so much time for releasing a single chapter. We want to do a lot of things, but sometimes we can't do all of them.
However, we like this manga very very much and we'll do everything we can to continue this project ^^ So please, continue to support us (yeah, our speed is a pain in the ass -___- you're totally right), we'll try our best to release faster and better =)

Who cares. Where's the chapter?

Here XD Enjoy it!

Poll Results

The poll results are in; it was close initially but "translate them" won by a landslide. So I'll be translating the 3rd person phrases into first person when necessary, like when someone used the name of the person they're talking instead of "you" or use their own names instead of "I".

However, I will be keeping the 3rd person phrases for Maaya. The reason being is that she's already a very self-centered character and it just fits. It may be cute to refer to oneself in 3rd person (as someone in the comments said), for Maaya it seemed to have a hint (more than a hint) of conceitedness behind it.

P.S. Chapter 68 is in its final stages of checks and last minute editing, it should be out in days.

News about chapter 67 & Poll

Chapter 67's almost finished ^^
And here's a question from our translator:

As the translator of Umisho, I would like to say thank you to the fans out there of this series. However, there's something I like to ask everyone. It concerns how certain things are translated from Japanese to English.

In Umisho, there are often times where the characters will refer to themselves in 3rd person. For example Makio, she would say something like "Makio will try her best". Now as far as English speakers go, referring to one self in 3rd person may seem odd and a bit arrogant. I am not exactly sure if this is considered arrogant in Japanese but I have heard people do that when I was in Japan two years ago and no one really minded. However, when I'm translating lines where the character refers to themselves in 3rd person, I am often stuck on whether I should translated it as is (meaning in 3rd person) or change to first person with "I" or "me".

Which brings me to another thing. Okiura does this quite a lot when talking to Shizuoka. Even though it's only the two of them talking, Okiura will say something like "Will Shizuoka also go?" instead of saying "you". This I can explain actually. The Japanese words for "you" are not used that often when speaking and when it does, it's usually to someone close. There are three main forms of "you" in Japanese, "anata", "omae", and "kimi". Omae and kimi are used amongst close friends and usually not very polite and I guess Okiura doesn't feel like he's that close with Shizuoka. While "anata" on the other hand, is more polite, but it has a double meaning where it can mean "dear" or "honey" between couples. Okiura's relationship with Shizuoka is pretty awkward most of the time so out of politeness, he will say her name instead of "you" when talking to talking to her.

Here's what I like to ask the readers. Should I translated it as it is? Meaning leave the names even if they're referring to themselves in 3rd person?
OR
Translate them to "you", "I", "me", whenever it's appropriate?

Poll on the side.
